The Lane Cove National Park
is only 10km north-west of Sydney and covers 600ha. It was Gazetted as a National Park in 1938.
Although its waterways and the edges of the park are being encroached by weeds, it remains an incredible source of wildflowers - many of which are unique to the Sydney Basin.
The Lane Cove National Park Plan of Management states that there are 550 native flora species recorded in the Park. Our website has a third of those.

The park has been severely affected by bush-fires in recent years, but through this, it demonstrates how Australian flora has not only evolved to survive fire, but uses it to propagate.
The National Parks and Wildlife website provides details of the Park.
Over the past few years, I have come across some stunning flowers in the Park that aren't endemic native plants.
To help identify native flora, I have now included a webpage dedicated to these introduced plants - aka "weeds ". It is also a bit sad to discard images of these very attractive aliens - although the plants themselves are invasive and threaten natural diversity.
I am indebted to -
Les Robinson's Field Guide To the Native Plants of Sydney (Kangaroo Press, 2003), and
Royal Botanic Gardens' PlantNET website.
These reference sources have greatly assisted me in identifying the Park's wildflowers.
