About Birds
All about our new
series of webpages
Welcome to the revised Birds webpages!

We have split our burgeoning Birds webpage into 5 webpages.

We have also upgraded the webpages to HTML5/CSS3.

There are 828 species of Australian native birds - this does not include 27 introduced birds, or sadly, 13 that are now extinct. Nearly half of the Australian birds are endemic. (Source: Australian Biological Resources Study)

Of these 828 birds there are 50 that are considered endangered or vulnerable.

World-wide there are close to 10,000 bird species - with over 1,200 considered threatened.

Our images.

Our images are more concerned with the detail of the subject to allow identification, than their artistic merit. Sometimes we have achieved both.

Introduced birds have been included to complete the identification process.

We welcome offers of images of birds for the website - especially those we do not have - and will acknowledge the photographer. Here's our email address.
