The Blue Mountains of New South Wales
is a treasure trove of stunning wildflowers.
It is estimated that there are over 1,000 species of flowering plants in the park. This website has barely a tenth of these.
Historically the Blue Mountains area was "saved" from farming, grazing and settlement by its rugged terrain.
The Blue Mountains National Park covers 250,000 hectares and is located 60km from Sydney.
In November 2000, the Greater Blue Mountains (including the Blue Mountains National Park) was listed as a World Heritage Area. It covers over one million hectares.
I am indebted to -
- Les Robinson's Field Guide To the Native Plants of Sydney (Kangaroo Press, 2003),
- Margaret Baker & Robin Corringham's Native Plants of the Blue Mountains (A Three Sisters Publication,1995), and
- Royal Botanic Gardens' PlantNET website.
These reference sources have greatly assisted me in identifying the Park's wildflowers.
